October 201904 October 2019 Time waits for nobody, and another month has begun, and we began it with a trip to Jarrahdale up in the hills South of Perth. With a new van to get used to good friends Bob and Julie came up to spend some time with us and to check their van's operation following some remedial work. We spent the time enjoying each other's company and getting some photography done until it was time for them to head home, and for us to head off to Bruce Rock again for the yearly grain harvest. With some astro photography to be done us blokes spent an evening down on the Serpentine Dam wall getting some shots of the milky way while the women had some time on their own.
Being out in the bush we though the light pollution would be minimal, but... With fog on two of the mornings in Jarrahdale there was the chance to learn some different photography. Not only was there fog, but a nearby controlled burn meant there was smoke all through the area, which also made for some interesting photography.
The sun filtered through the smoke and the bush quite nicely.
A slightly aspect to include some of the local wildflowers.
A cropped in view as the smoke thickened. Then on the last morning, on the way to get some shots of this little tree I had been trying to get a good shot of I spied a composition that had been right in front of my eyes for the past few days. Walking along the fenceline near the old single men's quarters for the now disused sawmill was nothing too fantastic until the fog, and later on the smoke came along. Taking the shot it would have been nice if the sun had come out, and as is my want, just as I was packing up to leave, out it came and I got the shot I wanted.
It's amazing what some fog or smoke to filter some light can do to help the mood of a photo. So after all of that fun we have now made our way out to Bruce Rock to start work next week to get the site ready for the harvest which looks like starting early this year, but more updates on that later. 27 October 2019 It's almost the end of the month and while it feels like not a great deal has happened, in fact lots has. We have cleaned and set up the wheat bin at Bruce Rock, and in addition Narembeen and Mount Walker. The weather has been reasonably kind to us and despite the hot days we have sort of acclimatised. Grain has started to come in and while it is only the start of the harvest, it looks like being an poor to average harvest this year, but we have work for a few weeks yet, and we are thankful for that. Photography has taken a bit of a back seat but, there has been some on a Sunday (our day off), and so, for the time being, we look like being able to continue the youtube vlogs and add to the social media feeds. In the meantime, here's a few shots from the last few weeks.
A beautiful pink hue in the clouds made for a great sunset shot.
Sunset.
After the sun has departed comes the real colour in the sky. And so as October heads to its end at warp speed, we get ready for November.
Mark Twain once said "...years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do that by the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - and so we will. |
